There are the other Karen Hand-woven Shawls which are weaved by the real Karen in the shop.

The yarn are made from the natural Cotton. And also the color of the fabric dye from the pure natural color which made from the part of trees.
That is the reason of the comfort for the product made from pure cotton

Mae Sai District

This is the most important district in Chiang Rai Province, it far 60 km. from Chiang Rai City. Since it located at the border between Thai and Myanmar. The most of the products in Mae Sai are made from China and Myanmar for a few. For that reason we should expect the quality as the lowest one with the low price The border is connected with Tachileik in Myanmar the product which a little bit good for the cheap price is the Myanmar’s Silk Fabric. It contain couple good attributes such as it can be ironed, and also can be washed in the cold water with the washing machine. I hope that I can have some dress in my collection

Phu Sang Waterfall

Today I went to the border between Thai and Laos at Chiang Kam district! But unfortunately, I didn’t see any interesting there Normally, there will be a number of the Hmong Hill Tribes at the border, but there are a few of them. May be this is the Hmong Hill Tribe’s New Year 2008 so they may stay at home and celebrate the New Year with their family.

I also went to the ex-unseen of Thailand, Phu Sang Waterfall, this waterfall located ajasent to the main road. Phu Sang Waterfall is the waterfall of limestone and the water come from the hot spring !!! I spent around one and a half hours there, it just the beautiful place for you to visit since it is very natural waterfall so there are a lot of big tree in the way to the hot spring

This is one of the Karen Hand-woven Shawl, but in fact it can be adapted in many purposes if you have some creative ideas in home decoration, for example; scarf, table runner, bed runner, etc. I can fold this Karen Hand-woven shawl to be a original Karen hat !!! I can show you the way to fold this Karen Hand-woven shawl, if you prefer me to do so

Doi Mae Sa-long (Mae Sa-long Hill)

I went to Doi Mae Sa-long.

Doi Mae Sa-long located 40 kilometers from Mae Chan, along Route 1089, small mountainous, mutiethnic village. Hmong, Mien, Akha and Lisu blend with the Yunannese (KMT), a mountaintop settlement known as Santi Khi-ri (Peaceful Mountain) is the home to descendants of Chinese Nationalist soldiers who fled to Myanmar, and finally Thai government granted refugee status in 1961. Mountainside plantations of tea, and Chinese cuisine.

The road to Doi Mae Sa-long quite winding, there are several dangerous bends. The time of travel from Chiang Rai City to Doi Mae Sa-long took around 2 hours. Doi Mae Sa-long have lots of interesting activities and provide scenic variety.

The area is particularly picturesque in December and January when Thai cherry trees are in blossom. Accommodation, restuarants and opportunities for horse – riding, trekking , see the way of villager life, drink some fresh produced tea, etc.

I do not recommend for any one who wanna see the life of the hill tribes or looking for something natural since this place is composed of the Chinese and Hill Tribe, most of them are the Chinese who growing the tea for merchandise and a few Hill Tribe who selling the wild corps. The natural forest is lessen, it does not so natural like ever.

There is Bakery & Coffee Shop up there name “Sweet Mae Sa-long”, the view from the shop is very beautiful. I will let you prove by yourself.

The weather is also very good up there

The Karen in Thailand are mostly migrated from Myanmar via the border on feet for more than 30 years ago. That is the reason of why did we have the Karen Hand Woven product in Thailand.

Karen Hand Woven stuffs are made during the spare time after the housewife task; children raising, cleaning, cooking, farming, etc. You can feel the simple life of the Karen through their home spun fabric.

I quite lucky since I met the Karen Hand Woven Fabric which can be used as Shawls. Do you know that the Textile which I said is consumed lots of time, but I can guarantee that it is worthwhile to posses a piece of it!!!

Equipments for making Karen Hand-woven Fabric

The loom, it is the most important equipments for making most of the Hand-woven Fabric for Thai villagers.

The special for the Karens weaving is that they use the loom to tie with their waist and sitting for woven the fabric, as we call “waist loom“, which product the unique width of the Karens’ fabric (the width is around 12 inches or 1 foot).

As I mention about the expertise of the Karen’s women which contain the perfect skill of the weaving the fabric, the results shown in the every piece of the Karen Hand-woven Fabric.

We can say that “Every pieces of the Karen Hand-woven Fabrics are the World Class Masterpieces.”

Karen (Karen, also known in central Thailand as Kariang and Yang in the north)

Karen are found in both Myanmar and Thailand. There are two main groups of Karen in Thailand:

1. The Pwo (known as ‘Pg’a Kanyaw Pg’o’ and referring to themselves as ‘Phlong’ or ‘Phlong Shu’)

2. The Sgaw (S’kaw referring to themselves as Pg’a Kanyaw Sg’aw’ meaning Sgaw people).

The Karens believed that every Karen’s women must have the skills in weaving so the elder Karen’s women pay attention to the weaving culture by letting the girls in their tribe who have the interest in the weaving since they were 7-10 year-of-age so they can learning by doing and make them be the weaving expert while they were still young.

The Karens are also the only minority group who work as mahout for the elephants in Thailand.
